Limousin club raises £27,000 for charity
By Staff Reporter
THE highly successful Limousin Open Day at the Corrie Family Farm at Drunhilla, Newtownards, had enshrined in its planning the wish to raise some funds for a local charity.
The Local Branch of the Motor Neuron Disease Association was chosen and, with the assistance of their officers, the Corrie family and the officers and committee of the Limousin Club and with a plentiful supply on hand of donation “buckets” and a charity auction of some two dozen valuable items, it was soon evident that a sizeable amount could be raised.
What was not taken into account at that time was the subsequent willingness of so many individuals and organisations (some 64 of them) to “put their hand in their pockets” and, without seeking publicity, make donations, a number of these being in excess of £1,000.
When the organisers got down to assessing how the funds were raised this is what they found: The “buckets” raised £1,729.70; the Auction £9,690 (this included a heifer graciously donated by the Corrie family which raised £1,400); and donations, £15,985. (Two of these were at £1,400 each and several at £1,000), making a grand total of £27,404.00.
A cheque to this amount was handed over to the representatives of the Local Branch of the Motor Neuron Disease Association.
