No washout this year as crowds flock to Ferguson homestead
By Staff Reporter
THE annual Harry Ferguson event at Growell got off to a damp start and reminded the organisers of last year's event on August 16 when much of NI was flooded.
However the damp start did not deter the show and by 10.30am the sun was shining on a display of Ferguson tractors of both grey and red colour models.
The theme this year was to celebrate 70 years of the Ford Ferguson tractor and it was a task in itself to find this rare model. On the day up to 30 were on display and some of them, as they say in the Ferguson world, were in their working clothes. A lot of these wee grey fergies still work on the farm doing jobs that the big modern tractor is not suitable for.
Among the used tractors would have been at least three in lovely restored condition and a very special one which stood out from the pack was a recently restored model by owner Roy Poots from the homestead itself. Roy has indeed put the effort and the money into this restoration and produced a perfect example of the Ford Ferguson.
Many other Ferguson models were on display and many visitors were on site to talk Ferguson talk on whether the tractors were restored as they should be or was it the correct shade of grey. By 2pm the show was at its height and music from Trevor Dickson and Co, including the Ulster Scots band, kept the atmosphere and the spectators happy.
