New vets sought to help tackle disease
By Steven Moore

The Veterinary Service is seeking to fill two key positions with a view to stepping up its efforts to tackle animal diseases.

The two Deputy Chief Veterinary Officer posts, for which applications have to be in by noon on July 3, are existing positions.

The vacancies had arisen due to the retirement of one member of the Senior Civil Service and movement, within DARD, of another, to take up the post of Director for Rural Payments and Inspection.

The successful applicants, who will work in support of the Chief Veterinary Officer, will be Head of Logistics Division and Head of Operations Division.

A Department of Agriculture spokeswoman said the titles reflected the responsibilities of the DCVO posts under a more programme based delivery approach.

Such an approach had been piloted in delivering the brucellosis control programme to good effect and so was to be extended further, she said.

The developments were part of the department’s strategy for ongoing improvements and a greater customer focus in delivery, the spokeswoman added.
